Postage online through Pay Pal

PayPal continues to add great features for sellers. Now you can not only buy postage or ship with UPS through PayPal, but also print labels on your own printer. If you ship lots of items and use a different service for printing your shipping data (such as the other services mentioned in this chapter), PayPal allows you to input the tracking information on the site even if you've printed your delivery confirmations with postage elsewhere. Just click the Details link for the transaction, and then click the Add Tracking Info link that appears. Input the tracking or delivery confirmation information from USPS, UPS, or another shipping company on the resulting page, as shown in Figure 17-6, and PayPal sends an e-mail to your buyer with that information.

The information you added appears in both the record of your PayPal transaction list and the buyer's transaction list in their account, as shown in Figure 17-7. (You can check whether the package has progressed by clicking the Check Shipment link on the Transaction list.)

on PayPal.

PayPal shipping services work great when you're just starting out in your eBay business, but once you get rolling, you need a mailing service that includes e-mail and record keeping, such as Endicia or Stamps.com. When you process your shipping (UPS or USPS) through PayPal, the shipping amount is deducted from your PayPal (sales revenue) balance. This is an important issue.

If you're starting a business in earnest, you need to keep track of your online expenses separately (see Chapter 16). Allowing PayPal to deduct your shipping costs from your incoming revenue creates a bookkeeping nightmare. You need to have exact figures for expense and income — and it really helps keep confusion to a minimum when your deposits (withdrawals from your PayPal account to your bank) match your sales receipts. If you want to ship through PayPal, be sure you withdraw your sales amount from your checking account before you process your shipping. That way, your shipping can be charged to your business credit card for easier tracking.

To purchase postage and print your label for a specific purchase, click the Print Shipping Label button next to the payment record in your PayPal account overview, as shown in Figure 17-8. You'll be taken through a step-by-step process for paying for your shipping and printing the appropriate label on your printer.

I refined my information, added notes as things came up and took out old or outdated information. Each time I discovered a new little tip or trick as I was making money with EBay, I added that information. Today, I bring home anywhere from 500 to 2000 each week with EBay. Thats not too shabby for someone who was just a year ago afraid to even purchase something from the site.
